Discover the Mediterranean’s most evocative islands on a voyage from mainland Greece to Crete, Sicily, Malta, Sardinia and Mallorca
There's no better way to sail around the sparkling Mediterranean
than on Golden Horizon. Newly built, this classical ship is the
world's largest square-rigged sailing vessel, combining traditional
style with exceptional levels of service and comfort.
Departing from the iconic sights of Athens, you will cross to
Crete's atmospheric old port of Chania. Here, Venetian townhouses
host inventive tavernas, while one shopping street is solely
reserved for leatherware. Meanwhile, picture-perfect beaches, white
windmills and Samaria Gorge walks are all close by if you want to
explore further.
Next is Sicily's beautiful east-coast hub Syracuse, where you
could spend your time exploring one of the ancient world's key
cities, including the magical island-quarter of Ortigia, or venture
out to ascend Mount Etna.
Leaving Sicily behind, you'll arrive in Valletta, the seductive
capital of Malta, with its strong design scene, fine-arts museum in
MUZA and harbour-crossing cruises. Or head to Gozo for world-famous
diving, gigantic temples and a 5000-year-old underground
necropolis.
Your next stop, Sardinia's capital Cagliari, is a jaw-dropping
sight on approach - its domes and golden palazzi soar up from the
sea below a castle. History buffs might tour the area after
visiting the extensive ruins of nearby Nora, a 3000-year-old
clifftop city. Alternatively, Italy's longest beach sprawls just
east of town.
Your voyage finishes in Mallorca's honey-stone centre Palma,
where high-class art galleries, restaurants and studios pepper
medieval streets below the mesmerising Catedral de Mallorca.
You can be as active as you like during your cruise, with a
choice of amazing optional excursions, as well as the onboard spa,
pools, marina (complete with water sports), gym, local delicacies,
lectures and entertainment.
